How does a suit signal Britishness? | Fashion City
Переглядів 6853 місяці тому
How does a suit signal Britishness? Hellmut Feisenberger was a refugee from Nazi Germany who arrived in London in 1933. Due to the growing anti-semitism in Britain, he didn't want to be immediately recognisable as a German Jew, leaving him to feel like an outsider in his own clothes. Feisenberger decided to develop a new wardrobe, which is where he became a Moss Bros customer. Second hand cloth...

And nothing said ‘Dot’ quite like her trademark coat. Bethan Bide, our Fashion City academic advisor, takes a closer look at this unmistakable BBC wardrobe piece and the story of how it came to help shape Dot’s character.

Isobel Dress Conservation Journey | Fashion City

This Isobel evening dress from our collection is a very rare piece, being one of just four known to exist. It was made in 1930 out of Nottingham Leavers Lace, which though beautiful is an intricate and difficult design, meaning it has had to have multiple repairs throughout its life. This dress was sent out to an external conservator in order to be made stable enough for display in Fashion City...

Its a bad idea, they don't exist, they are sewers. The Tyburn exists as a small stream between Hampstead and swiss cottage, it goes straight down the interceptor sewer. From swiss cottage south its just a sewer. As for the fleet, the entire length is a sewer. Sorry but this is misleading, it would be impossible to redirect the sewage and even if they did, theres hardly any water from source. I would love for it to happen but they are trunk sewers. I have explored some of them, they only carry sewage and rain water. These sewers will connect to then Tideway tunnel once complete and they will very rarely if ever meet at the Thames

Another point to make is that the Maroons of Jamaica were not fully African. They were mixed with the native people the inhibited the island. To some degree Sierra Leone has a Native American population.

My grandmother was living at Winifred Street, North Woolwich together with her four-year-old son when the explosion occurred in 1917. Her husband (my grandfather) was in France at the time. He enlisted in the army at the outset of World War 1. Fortunately, Grandmother and son were unharmed by the explosion. They went to stay with relatives at Blackheath and remained with them long after their father returned from war in 1919. Apparently, the home at Winifred Street, along with neighbouring properties somehow avoided the most serious, structural damage. However, the explosive force was so intense, coupled with the risk of spreading fire, that many homes in the area became instantly uninhabitable. Bear in mind also, both labour and materials would have been in short supply, it is reasonable to assume that even simple, basic repairs would take some while to complete. Anyway, for a variety of sound reasons, no doubt, our family never returned to that locality
